The first full-length of the South-Finnish black metal band Cavus follows their style known from their last year's EP.
The raunchy and crashing style continues in “Fester And Putrefy”. The singer W's versatility in the different areas of growling and screaming spices up the brutal black metal rattle. The vocals don't settle to monotony. That is a big plus what comes to live shows, since unidimensional vocalists are boring as hell.
Cavus has nicely put the harsh riffs and ruthless dash into a working entity. It ends up sounding pretty much like you could imagine from the name of the album. In general Cavus has a unique touch to what it's doing. However, there are clear influences of, for example, Mayhem especially in the vocal part. This is perfectly understandable as these two groups have performed several times at same events. Besides, which black metal band hasn't been influenced by Mayhem?
The climax of the album turned out to be the song “Death Rattle”. Its unpretentious old school death metal - rock'n roll style has a vicious touch in it. And the riff gets stuck in the head up to the point where it gets even irritating.
Other great bits of the album include “Discovering Through Suffering” and the opening song “Fist Of A Titan”. Sounding chaotic isn't necessarily a bad thing, proves Cavus. In general, sounding ugly is of course a positive thing in black metal, but this time Cavus really nails it.
Cavus seems to be doing quite well now with the boost of the new album. This fall they will be having a tour covering several European countries from Slovenia and Italy to UK supporting Gorgoroth. Since they're a powerful live band, you would expect that winning over new fans will be a piece of cake. I wish good luck and lots of success!

Il primo full-lenght dei Cavus, black metal band proveniente dal sud della Finlandia, segue le orme del loro primo EP, pubblicato l´anno scorso.
Il loro stile rozzo e fragoroso caratterizza sicuramente questo loro nuovo lavoro, intitolato “Fester And Putrefy”. La versatilitá del cantante W, che sa spaziare con abilitá dal grow allo scream aggiunge quel tocco in piú al loro black metal grezzo. Le linee vocali infatti non si adagiano mai nel creare monotonia, fattore sicuramente positivo, specialmente quando si tratta di concerti, dal momento che molti di quei cantanti che non hanno queste qualità, possono risultare in genere assolutamente noiosi.
I Cavus hanno inoltre saputo assemblare riff duri e aspri con una precisione spietata lungo l´intero album. Questo disco suona esattamente come te lo immagineresti semplicemente leggendone il titolo. In generale i Cavus hanno un tocco unico in quel che fanno. Ci sono tuttavia chiare influenze, come i Mayhem ad esempio, specialmente nella parte vocale, ma la cosa é abbastanza comprensibile anche dal momento che questi due gruppi hanno spesso partecipato e suonato agli stessi eventi musicali. E a parte tutto, quale black metal band non é stata influenzata, anche solo un po´, dai Mayhem?
L´apice dell´album viene raggiunto con la canzone "Death Rattle", un death metal old school raffinato e sobrio con quel pizzico di rock´n´roll viscido. I riff inoltre rimangono in testa cosí bene che alla lunga fa quasi irritare. Altri punti forti del disco sono “Discovering Through Suffering” e il brano d´apertura intitolato “Fist Of A Titan”.
I Cavus in definitiva dimostrano che suonare in modo "sporco" o caotico, che dir si voglia, non é necessariamente una cattiva cosa. É quasi d´obbligo aggiungere che comunque, spesso, dei suonare non proprio perfetti e a volte sgradevoli sono un tratto distintivo e talvolta positivo del black metal, e stavolta i Cavus sottolineano ripetutamente questo aspetto.
Con lo stimolo di questo nuovo disco i Cavus sembrano voler puntare in alto. Durante l´autunno andranno in tour in diversi paesi europei, dalla Slovenia, all´Italia, all´Inghilterra, come supporter dei Gorgoroth. Sapendo che dal vivo sono potenti e sanno convincere, oserei dire che per loro sará un gioco da ragazzi conquistare un sacco di nuovi fan. Auguro a loro in bocca al lupo e tanto successo!
